Changing the International Law of War
October 21, 2009, 7:55PM

Under the cover of the "War against Terror" Israeli Prime minister Benyamin Netanyahu has proposed to start an international lobby to change the rules of War so his, and other Militaries can engage in unlawful actions against civilians, and infrastructure to flush out terrorists. It will also validate the actions of the Israeli, and other Militaries in past actions.

This generally brought the idea to my head:

Should the rules of conduct in War be revised?

Are they too slack, making it hard to combat terrorism?

Are they largely gone unforced when it comes to strong Nuclear armed democracies, because they 'run' the International Community?

Should their be reform to protect Civilians further?

Surely that's completly mental? It maximises innocent civilian casualties, and will probabaly cause maximum sufferering to Combatants?

I don't know a whole lot about politics or government affairs, but I do believe that based upon what I have seen in the news, we should definitely rethink what we are doing to combat terrorism and crime, and protect the people more. I'm not sure what should be done or what's missing, but obviously what we have going on isn't working to its fullest potential as terrorism and crime are still rising.

Terrorism isn't really a US problem anymore, Terrorism is much more centered in Pakistan, Spain, Thailand, The North of Ireland, and Israel.

Terrorist cells in the US and Great Britain are generally controlled, and dealt with.

Terrorism is a criminal matter, not a military one. So no.

"Anyone who clings to the historically untrue — and thoroughly immoral — doctrine that "violence never solves anything" I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms."

Human life is not sacred. When you fight a war in which the combatants are mixed in and homogeneous with the civilians, civilians will die. To fight such a war and refuse to harm civilians is the beginning of your failure.

That's about the stupidest thing I've ever seen on Darkstarlings, and that's saying quite a lot.

What's stupid about that? Given the rise in terrorists cells since the war on terror increased terrorism, there have been very few attacks in US and Great Britain, in fact only 1 successful attack. Considering more people want to kill British and American civilians than ever before, that's an insanely good track record.

So we should stop looking for them? We should stop fighting international terrorism? We should withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan and allow Iran to take them over?

terrorism is a WORLD problem. It's not confined to one country.

And just because an attack hasn't happened again, doesn't mean they're not trying, just that we're successful in stopping them.

That's what aidan said. Now you are repeating him. We are successful in stopping them. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have only made terrorism worst, not better. So yes, fighting terrorism by preventing the creation of more terrorists would be a great way to protect civilians.

Terrorists aren't created because we are in Afghanistan and Iraq. Terrorists exist because we don't follow sharia law. They will never stop until we are all ruled by fundamentalist islamic cleric governments. And obviously, since that will never happen, they will always exist.

and leaving Afghanistan and Iraq will only serve to allow iran to take them over, and that will help NO ONE.

America didn't care about civilians when they dropped the nuke. I don't see why we should now. They can just pick and choose what they want to do. Civilians suck ass anyway, they should be fighting. Surpass the boundaries of human suffering, drop the bombs, hack of heads!

They need to be changed if people truly want to fight terrorism. Terrorism lies in the civilians.

What're you guys even talking about? I've looked around these forums a bit, and I've read a LOT of stupid things. None of these posts even come close to stupid. Perhaps different opinions, but that's it.

It came from the words of Osama Bin Laden himself: US involvement in the Middle East, especially Israel, was the reason they target the US.

For someone to ignore the clear history, and contemporary issues, that cause tension between the US and fundamental Islam, then that someone is stupid.
