| Bottled water vs filtered. | October 3, 2009, 1:45PM | Do you buy bottled water? Why exactly? Cons: -60 million plastic bottles are thrown out every day in America alone. It's also a leading source of plastic pollution.
-It takes millions of gallons of fuel to transport them.
-It takes 3 times as much water to make the bottle as it does to fill it.
-It's impossible to get chemical free water from a bottle or from the tap.
-Plastic bottles release chemicals into your water. Like BPA. BPA ingestion is linked with cancer, and reproductive damage.
-Most studies show the quality is no better than tap water.
-Federal regulations only require bottled water to be as good as tap water, not better.
-90% or so of the cost is the bottle, the lid, and the label you're buying.
Pros of filtered water:
-You only need to pay for the filter once. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars a year on bottled water.
-You don't have to leave your house if you run out of water.
-You can pick the degree of purity you want.
-You won't be making any waste, or pollution.
-You won't be adding chemicals like BPA to your water.
-You'll be drinking a higher quality cleaner water.
So why not use a filter at home? It's too hard to fill a glass bottle yourself? To put a pitcher of water in the fridge?

Do you find the mucus in your nasel passage makes breathing a chore? Well then, perhaps you don't deserve to breathe at all.

| Re: Bottled water vs filtered. | October 3, 2009, 2:17PM | They have pretty nice filters around $25-$35. I've never had one before, because I never paid much attention.
As soon as we get a place to live I'm going to get one. I was oogling them yesterday at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. XD

| Re: Bottled water vs filtered. | October 3, 2009, 2:23PM | We need a filter, tbh. I'm not sure why we haven't bought one.
But our water has rust and all sorts of icky things in it, as it comes right from the well.
AWFUL tasting. I tried it the day we moved here, 9 years ago, and haven't sipped it since. (I use it to brush my teeth though, obviously).

| Re: Bottled water vs filtered. | October 3, 2009, 2:37PM | I've always liked well water better than city water. I'd pass on the rust too, though.
The older filters are actually more trouble. They catch alot of floaties and eventually if you don't take them out and clean them they start clogging. You get all kinds of weird stuff in your water. -.- My Sister uses water strictly from her bathroom over that. Instead of ya know..cleaning or removing the filter. xD
At first I wanted to get a fridge that had a filter built in, but I can't see trying to clean or replace that if it were needed. New filters are much nicer.♥

| Re: Bottled water vs filtered. | October 3, 2009, 4:19PM | When I had a fridge with a filter, I used that. But I'm a college student. I need my drink to be on the go, haha. I get bottled water to stock in my fridge so I can grab it and go. I also drink a lot of flavored water, so, again, bottles.
If I can find a small filter-pitcher that won't take up my entire minifridge space and is cheap, I'll get it and just use refill my bottles.

Because it is a chemical?

| | Re: Bottled water vs filtered. | October 6, 2009, 1:31PM | I drink bottled water since I live in the tri-state area of Marathon oil and big coal mining ops. So the tap water is either not filtered enough and has that horrible rotten egg iron taste, or too filtered and taste like chlorinated pool water. -.-
Fiji Water ftw. On occasion though I'll wash out an old water jug or something and Boil water and stick it in the fridge. But i'm lazy.
