| More efficient notification system? | February 3, 2012, 11:09AM |
In order for me to see that I have new notices or new comments I have to refresh the page, or go to my profile/post. Why not upgrade the notification system so that it automatically updates without having to refresh? Similar to FB's little red numbers, just with DS's "New (insert whatever is new)".

pretty epic idea
though dont make it like facebook i hate that shit plus if it looked anything remotely like facebooks design zuckerberg would cry and go mad it he found out lmao
make it a lil metal head holding a sign xD

yeah, just keep the current design of "New notices" or "New Comments" but make it so they appear whenever you get them, so that you don't have to constantly refresh.

Should be easy enough. I'll add it to the to-do.

Done...
It is set to check for new alerts every 15 seconds and automatically update the page.
Let me know if you find any bugs.

Let me know if you find any bugs. Quick question though, is this something that will update on phones/mobile devices? More specifically, will it update if I don't actually have the page open on the phone yet the browser is still running in the background?

I appreciate this. The funny thing is, I was talking to a friend about getting a hold of you today for the idea. lateralaeus beat me to it, and I'm glad he did. Thank you!

The answer should be yes to both.

I think I might have run into a bug. Before this update, if I hovered my cursor over the "New Notices" link, a little thing would pop up and let me choose which notice to click, without going to the notification page. Now it doesn't. However I'm not sure if that little thing only pops up when there is more than one notice, or if it's supposed to pop up regardless of the number. I thought I'd mention it.

What's actually happening is that when the alerts are updated, the notification drop box is broken.
So it should work if you refresh the page--for about 15 seconds. At which point, it will update alerts and break again.
Working on it...

A "-1" appeared where a new notice would be, and also appears in the upper left hand corner of my screen o_O

I'm adding to lateralaeus' latest post; I'm having the same issue I believe. However, I haven't noticed anything in the upper left-hand portion of my screen.
Here's what I saw where the "new notices" show up, "latestalert: 1328308561" Not sure that it matters, but it was strictly text/not clickable.
